This is a new and unchartered forum for discussion of cemeteries, graveyards, genealogy, and all related fields. I have been wandering the graveyards of New York City for years and have lately discovered mutual interest in some of my favorite discoveries -- particularly the Johnston Tomb, the Soldiers Monument, and certain tombstones of great art such as the Vincenzo Scime marker at Old Calvary in Queens. Some years ago I purchased a rather costly license for this message board software, only to never use it. A few weeks ago I dusted it off and installed it, and have been plugging it in around my web sites to see what interested parties land here and want to get discussion going. Did you land here at random? That's cool, introduce yourself, because randomness is everything and if we never pass this way again we can at least say hello on the way by.
Yesterday I found a batch of nice photos I forgot I had, from the Pinewood Cemetery in Daytona Beach, Florida. It is not a huge yard but it's a good size. I had to zoom find the real name of Pinewood on a map because I thought the yard was called Boot Hill. Daytonans (is that a word?) refer to Pinewood as Boot Hill, and in fact there is a pub across the streete from the cemetery called the Boot Hill Saloon. I have been in there, its floor buried in peanut shells, and I have seen the signs which declare that "YOU'RE BETTER OFF HERE THAN ACROSS THE STREET." (I guess that's debatable.)
